Background

Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (“DTCM”) is an entity established pursuant to Law No. 1 of 1997 and having its principal address at P.O. Box 594, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

DTCM is the principal authority for the planning, supervision, development and marketing of tourism in Dubai. We also market and promote Dubai’s commerce sector and are responsible for the licensing and classification of all tourism services, including hotels establishments, tour operators, travel agents and all other tourism services. DTCM and its affiliates, including,  but  not  limited  to,  Dubai  Festivals  and  Retail  Establishment,  Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, Dubai Business Events and Dubai Calendar (collectively, “Dubai Tourism”, “We”, “we”, “our” or “us”) are committed to providing excellent service to all customers, including respecting their concerns about privacy and taking the relevant measures to safeguard their personal data in accordance with applicable data protection legislation.In this Privacy Policy:

Dubai Fitness Challenge” means a 30 day fitness challenge taking place in Dubai for participants located in the United Arab Emirates; and

Platforms” means:

(a)  our website www.dubaifitnesschallenge.com, including any microsites or tools contained therein (our “Website”); and

(b)  the Dubai Fitness mobile application, including any tools contained therein,  (our “Mobile Application”),

both of which have been created and are supported by our technology solution provider.

As well as providing an events calendar and information on events/activities that form part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge, our Platforms sync with sports devices/applications and organize personalized exercise sessions or sports competitions and provide multimedia content. Our Platforms will allow us to store, organize and process data, including, for example, identifying data such as photographs, first and last name, birthdate, email address, weight and height, within a database.

We have provided this Privacy Policy to help you, the user, understand how we collect, use and protect your information when you visit and use our Platforms, and how that information will be treated.

This Privacy Policy uses the following key terms:

When used in “local storage” mode, it enables data to be stored across sessions (for example, so that the data are retrievable even after the browser has been closed and reopened). Collection and Uses made of the information

We collect and use information held about you in the following ways:

Information you give to us: For example, some of our services may require you to sign-up and create an account or provide personal data. In such circumstances, we’ll request personal data, like your name, email address, nationality, age, country of residence, telephone number or credit card to store with your account.

In relation to the Dubai Fitness Challenge, it is necessary to obtain and process personal information, including information classified as sensitive (for example, weight and height). This information, by its very nature, may be used to identify users through processing and matching with information held by third parties (though this is not the purpose of collecting such information).

We may use this information:

  • to operate the Platforms;
  • to display information about participating individuals and companies on publicly available leader boards, including posting name details provided to us, and you hereby consent to such use of your information;
  • to provide  you  with  the  information,  products  and  services  that  you  request from us;
  • to respond to your questions, comments and requests;
  • to provide you with services related to the Dubai Fitness Challenge;
  • where you have indicated your consent, to provide you, or permit selected third parties to provide you, with additional services and/or information about additional services that may interest you (see “Marketing” section below for more information);
  • to notify you about changes to one or all of our Platforms;
  • to ensure that content from our Platforms is presented in the most effective manner for you and for your device; and/or
  • for the uses set forth in the “Information we collect about you” section below.

Information we collect about you: We collect information about the services that you use and how you use them. This information may include (i) internet protocol (IP) address, (ii) device-specific information (such as your hardware model, operating system version, unique device identifiers, and mobile network information including phone number), (iii) device event information such as crashes, system activity, hardware settings, browser type, browser language, the date and time of your request and referral URL, (iv) cookies or similar technologies that may uniquely identify your browser or any of your accounts on our Platforms, (v) information (including personal data) locally on your device using mechanisms such as browser web storage (including HTML 5) and application data caches. We may also collect and process location information when you use any of our Platforms through various technologies such as Wi-Fi access points and cell towers and IP addresses.

When information is associated with any of your accounts on our Platforms, we treat it as personal data.

  • for the uses set forth in the “Information you give to us” section above;
  • to administer our Platforms and for internal operations, including troubleshooting, data analysis, testing, research, statistical and survey purposes;
  • to offer you tailored content;
  • to improve our Platforms to ensure that content is presented in the most effective manner for you and for your device;
  • to allow you to participate in interactive features of our service, when you choose to do so;
  • as part of our efforts to keep our Platforms safe and secure;

We may use this information and the combined information for the purposes set out above (depending on the types of information we receive).

How we collect personal data

We collect your personal data directly from you unless it is unreasonable or impractical to do so.  We do this in a number of ways including:

  • through your access and use of our Platforms or sending SMS/MMS to us;
  • when you enter into a competition or promotion;
  • through someone else who has provided us with your information (e.g. a gift subscription);
  • during conversations between you and our representatives; and/or
  • when you complete an application or

We may also collect personal data from third parties including:

  • third party  companies  such  as  credit  reporting  agencies,  law  enforcement agencies and other government entities;
  • advertisers;
  • mailing lists;
  • recruitment agencies; and/or
  • contractors and business

Any personal data we collect about you will only be retained for as long as it takes for the purposes for which such information is required to be completed. Internet Protocol (IP) Address

An IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your device every time you browse the internet. When you visit our Platforms, the server used by our web host will make a record of your IP Address, together with the date and time of your visit, the type of Internet Browser you use and the URL of any other websites that referred you to our Platforms.

We may also log IP addresses to analyse trends, administer our Platforms, track user movements, and gather broad demographic information.

In some cases we may also collect your personal data through the use of cookies. When you access our Website, we may send a “cookie” (which is a small summary file containing a unique ID number) to your device. The data that we collect from you may be transferred to, stored and otherwise processed on servers located outside the country in which you reside and which may be based in locations both within and outside of the UAE.
