Prateek Kewalramani, Head of Marketing, Fitbit - MEA at Google, gives some top tips on how to break out of a rut and find new fitness inspiration during Dubai Fitness Challenge - and beyond.
Did you know that the average working professional with an office job is seated for an average of seven to 12 hours a day? As you read this, ask yourself, how long have you been sitting at your desk today, and how many hours or minutes of physical activity have you done since this morning?
Did you know that just 30 minutes of physical activity a day could possibly help you lower your stress levels, decrease risk of cardiovascular diseases, improve your mood, boost your immune system, and have a whole host of other wellness benefits – both physical and mental?
Each year, Dubai Fitness Challenge brings a host of free fitness activities and events to the city, designed to help everyone achieve a fitter future by encouraging participants to get outdoors and to complete their 30 minutes of daily activity for 30 days.
But the big challenge we all face is keeping a regular workout schedule - hitting the gym and using the same machines, or doing the same at-home yoga classes on repeat, gets monotonous and makes us feel a little less than motivated. While there’s no perfect recipe for adding more flavor to your workout schedule, there are certainly few varieties of workouts that can be done to get your 30 mins in daily.
Another thing that has been observed to keep a regular workout schedule is the social connection. Exercising in a group has been shown to have multiple benefits beyond health. Forming social connections not only encourages improved fitness and stress reduction but ensures accountability and motivation that helps you stay on track with your fitness goals.
Dubai Fitness Challenge can be a perfect start to build and connect with the fitness community. This year at DP World Kite Beach Fitness Village there will be a variety of group and individual fitness classes at the new Fitbit zone - a multi level fitness area at the fitness village.
Each floor in the Fitbit zone is dedicated to different styles of fitness including the popular Fitbit Rebounder at ground level.
Find your fitness gear again and try to restart and improve your fitness journey with some individual and group workout suggestions.
Hula hoop - It’s said that hula hooping provides similar results to other forms of aerobic exercise, such as dancing. In just 30 minutes of hula hooping, women can burn around 165 calories, and men can burn about 200 calories - impressive isn’t it ?
Trampoline workout aka Fitbit rebounder - Trampoline jumping is another group workout that will make you jump for joy and allow you to get a full body workout in 30 minutes. Each year at Kite Beach Fitbit drives an engaging and super active daily trampoline jumping classes at the Fitbit Rebounder, and this year it’s going to be no different. Make sure you give the rebounder a try at Kite Beach this year.
Jump rope - If you’re looking for a fun and cost-effective workout that actually targets almost every body part, you may want to consider reaching for a jump rope! This is something that can be done at home or gym, and can help you reach your daily active zone minute goal.
Dance class - Want a full body workout that will also help you feel more comfortable in your body? Try a group dance class. We all know that music pairs so well with fitness and then wherever there’s music, dance just comes along naturally. This season, get moving and look out for some dancing partners to join a dance class, be it hip hop, salsa or maybe Indian traditional bhangra!
Open-air weightlifting at the beach - There's a gym, and then there's a gym at the beach - something that can keep you motivated for sure. This year Fitbit will also be providing all participants access to a dedicated open-air area that will house a variety of gym equipment to be used for a range of physical disciplines including gym training and weightlifting.
Circuit training - For those looking for a combination of athletic and functional strength core workouts - circuit training and High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workouts may be the right option for you. If you are interested, you can take advantage of daily group classes at Fitbit Core.
We hope you find your 30 mins of motivation each day this DFC and are inspired to incorporate that into your daily routine beyond the Dubai Fitness Challenge.
