HOW TO MAKE TIME TO WORK OUT ON A BUSY SCHEDULE

Rise, shine and jump into a routine

Kickstart your day with exercise, and a healthy dose of the feel-good rush it brings. You may have to wake up earlier (pro tip: go to bed earlier) or adjust your morning schedule slightly, but no good thing comes easy, right? Set off on a run as the sun rises or get into a routine you enjoy, mixed with some moves that’ll get your blood pumping, like jump squats, lunges and push-ups. Need more motivation? Early workouts have been shown to increase the body’s ability to burn fat and control blood pressure.

Break in the sets during lunch

If you’re not ready to be a morning person yet, don’t worry. Instead, optimise your lunch break by squeezing in your 30 minutes during the day. The easiest workout? A brisk walk or jog, which doubles as an efficient way to think through an action plan for the tasks you’ve got for the afternoon. You can also use the stairwell at work for step-up routines, and use your desk for chair squats and leg stretches. Is there a gym near your office building? You know where to go during the lunch break.

Slip into fitness after work

Save time and money by fitting an exercise regime into your after-work activities. Head to an aerobics class that’s on your way home. Hit your favourite playlist and go for a run around the grocery store before heading in. Do a few laps at the swimming pool in your residential building or neighbourhood before you turn in for the night. Go with your kids and their friends to the park where you either train outdoors or play a sport with them. Alternatively, you can also create a workout routine of yoga or pilates poses to do while you watch your favourite show on TV.
